BDO INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ
19 May 2011

The North Durban round of the BDO Inter-school quiz took place at Northwood on 19 May 2011.

Competing with teams from Northwood, Our Lady of Fatima, Crawford La Lucia and Crawford North Coast, the teams from Northlands Girls’ High School approached the evening with feelings of trepidation, wondering what questions would be asked and how difficult these would be. In the event, their worries were unfounded. The questions were fair and interesting and included two rounds of music to be identified. By the end of the evening all the stress and nervousness had evaporated and while the scores were being tallied, the girls whole-heartedly joined in the sing-along.

For the first time ever there was a tie for first place and after a tie-break question, a team from Northwood snatched first place from a Crawford La Lucia team. The top two teams from each school will be going through to the final which is to be held at Clifton on 7 June 2011.

The two successful Northlands teams are the Grade 11 team of Suraksha Sanichar, Mishkat Laher, Chanele Perumal and Prishanya Pillay and a Grade 10 team of Brittany Payne, Jade Moodley, Landile Mchunu with Ulsana Ramcharan from Grade 11.

BOOK FAIR IN THE LIBRARY
20 April 2011

23 April was World Book Day and it was also William Shakespeare’s birthday. To celebrate and honour the important role books and reading plays in our lives, the Media Centre at Northlands held its annual Book Fair.

The highlight of the fair was the parade of contestants in the “Dressing as a Literary Character or Book Title” competition. The girls had great fun dressing up, as did the audience in guessing the character or title. Megan Gibbs dressed as The BFG (Roald Dahl) and received the most votes as the best dressed character.
