clubs & services

A wide range of clubs and societies are functional at Northlands. Compassion, one of the core values of Northlands, finds expression in the community support and service the girls provide through various community outreach programmes.

Environmental and Conservation Associaton
06 December 2011

Mrs Goris, portfolio Mother for the Environmental and Conservation Association at the school, joined world leaders and honoured dignitaries at a gala dinner at the Olive Conference Centre hosted by the Vegan Society.

Guests were treated to a five course vegan dinner, and were entertained by leading African singers and dancers, including the Drakensberg Boys' Choir.

They listened to a number of keynote international speakers, who presented strategies to immediately decrease global warming through reduced methane emissions.

'Denim for Diabetes' Day
19 August 2011

By 2030 it is estimated that 30 billion people will have diabetes. Our school passionately embraced the campaign to improve awareness of diabetes with a ‘Denim for Diabetes’ day at the school recently.

700 girls proudly wore their denims, teamed with their colourful House T-shirts. Each girl contributed a minimum of R5 to the cause.

The Grade 12 girls were given the privilege of wearing their beautiful white matric jacket and many staff members came dressed in denim as well - all to promote awareness of diabetes.

Toastmasters Youth Leadership
30 July 2011

Three Grade 11 pupils took part in the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Semi-finals Contest at Danville on Saturday, 30 July.

Saimishka Naicker (11TY) participated in the 'Prepared Speech' category.

Alicia Sheodin (11SG) participated in the 'Evaluation' category.

Taynita Ramadene (11SG) participated in the 'Impromptu Speech' category

These girls were all awarded certificates of participation.

We are very proud to announce that out of 8 participants from various high schools, Saimishka Naicker was placed first in the 'Prepared Speech' Category and will be going through to the Finals Contest, being held in November. Well done, Saimishka!

Service with a smile
02 May 2011

A team of willing girls regularly meet at school to provide sandwiches for needy children in Durban.

Mrs Rass who heads up the `Bread Buddies' initiative is delighted that 2011 has seen much enthusiasm and effort from all Grades for this project.

Breast cancer awareness
18 April 2011

Our school’s commitment to women's health issues stepped up a notch recently.

The school is raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. Mrs Blignaut, a teacher at the school, is coordinating the sale of pink beaded ribbons to staff and pupils and is pictured here with the beautifully crafted pins.
