Northlands is an outstanding sporting school, with many girls representing their district, province and country. The emphasis is on the enjoyment of sport and the girls are encouraged to be involved in as many sports as possible. At all times, sportsmanship, commitment and team spirit are stressed.

MAKING WAVES Diyaksha Bramdeo and Larissa Ramiah from Northlands are making a wave.
Diyaksha Bramdeo (Grade 9) participated in the SA Level I Swimming Championships in Bloemfontein recently. She won gold medals in the 13 year old section for 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Diyaksha also won bronze medals for the 200m individual medley and the 100m backstroke.
Larissa Ramiah (Grade 10) participated in the SA Surf Lifesaving Champs at Blue Water Bay Beach in Port Elizabeth. Her team was placed third in the Juniors beach relay.
Both girls are members of Suncoast Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club
KZN NETBALL Sejal Singh, a Grade 8 pupil at Northlands, has been selected to play for the KZN U13 Netball team. She will be representing KZN at the Inter-Provincials in Boksburg in August.
Also a keen hockey player and swimmer, Sejal has been playing netball since Grade 3. This is the second year that she has been selected to represent KZN netball.
INTER-HOUSE GALA With loud cheering from an enthusiastic crowd, swimmer after swimmer “took the plunge” at Northlands Girls’ High School’s Inter-House Gala on 19 March.
Dressed in theme, Banks, Shepstone, Vaughan and Lewis house supporters chanted their war cries.
Shepstone house won the coveted Spirit Cup. Overall, Banks house won the gala.
“The support from our parents added to the fun of the event,” said Mrs Cynthia Field, Sport Co-ordinator at Northlands. “We are building our swimming team. We have upgraded our pool and training equipment and will be training year round. We have a five year plan and are excited for the future, aiming to be one of the top schools at galas.”
SWIMMING SENSATION Bianca de Sousa (Grade 11) has been selected to represent KZN High Schools’ Aquatics at the National High Schools’ Aquatics Championships in Bloemfontein from 05 to 06 March.
Bianca will also be competing at the Level 3 Championships in East London from 13 March.
CRICKET Grade 12 cricketer from Northlands Girls’ High School, Rasika Maharaj, has been selected as a squad member for the South African Senior Womens’ Team that will tour to the West Indies for the T20 World Cup.
Rasika is well on her way to realizing her dream of playing professional cricket. For the moment, her priority is to balance her passion for cricket with her matric studies at Northlands.
